Take a look at blue-build.org. You create a recipe (not very difficult), that can be set to use a Fedora atomic distro like Aurora, Bazzite or Kinoite as a base, then add your own apps to the image it creates so they’re all installed along with the OS. It’s really solid and also supports rollbacks.

KDE@lemmy.kde.social•How do I get rid of this status panel? It pops up every time I save.
9·10 months agoYou have the Kate Formatting Plugin activated. Either disable the plugin, or disable formatting on save for your file type: https://kate-editor.org/post/2024/2024-05-13-kate-formatting-plugin/
EDIT: You can also disable it through the edit menu.

If there are people who care about you, it’s not only selfish but also cruel. All you’re doing is passing on your pain to them.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone else here that stopped watching TV almost completely?
6·1 year agoI’ve been an avid news reader my whole life, and recently experimented with completely avoiding political and mainstream news for the past six months (I still read tech, science and entertainment news)…
At least for me, life has been at 99% less stressful. Anything truly important, someone I know will always tell me. I can’t see myself going back.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would happen if dead leaves suddenly became the most valuable currency in the world?
4·1 year agoPeople would start cutting down trees and plants so they could have more. Then that would cause inflation which in turn would cause people to cut more trees and plants. Carbon dioxide would soar, and then we all die.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Where should I request Fedora Silverblue to include all Noto fonts in the image?

9·1 year agoTo me, the ethical thing to do would be to allow people to make their own choices about their own bodies and their own lives, unless the don’t possess the mental ability to do so. Anything else would be unethical.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you're in the US, how are you preparing for the election and dealing with the stress?
6·1 year agoA combination of this and avoiding political news and discussion altogether (as much as I can anyway).
What’s the point of reading, discussing and/or arguing when in the end the only thing that matters is your vote (and money/time if you’re able and so inclined).
The news tries to rile you up, and all I really need to know is who won once the election happens, until then I’m avoiding it.

Gnome@discuss.tchncs.de•A Desktop for All (How to turn Gnome OS into a serious OS)
2·1 year agoI’m not against having multiple options and don’t expect Gnome OS to be identical to Silverblue.
I was just pointing out that a distro with the listed goals of GNOME, Flatpak, Robust, Immutable, Secure, Modern, Flexible and Opinionated already exist in Silverblue.
A really old book, how to win friends and influence people, can teach you this.

32·1 year agoThis sounds like Fedora Silverblue, which already exists.
I found the book “Feeling Good” by Dr. David Burns to be extremely helpful. It teaches you the most common method therapists use (cognitive behavior therapy). Like therapy, you need to continually practice it for it to be useful.
Practicing mindfulness can also be very beneficial.
If it’s available in your area, Ketamine therapy (not recreational ketamine) has been shown to act as a rapid antidepressant. In the US, there are at home ketamine providers that you can consult online. There’s a popular low-dose provider that includes provider visits and medication for $129/month, if you qualify.

Technology@lemmy.world•Marissa Mayer's Yahoo Journey: She Confess What Went Wrong, and The Lessons She LearntEnglish
2·1 year agoWhat went wrong was greed. They should have sold to Microsoft when it was offering them a ridiculous amount of money for a business that was already on the decline.
A few years later they sold themselves for about $5 Billion, which was only around 10%-11% of Microsofts final offer.

Linux Mint is usually recommended for beginners.
For something more cutting edge, but stable, take a look at Fedora Kinoite (Windows like), Fedora Silverblue or Bazzite (great for gaming).
You can also use tools from blue-build.org (easier) or Universal Blue (harder unless you’re comfortable with containers) to customize them further, if you want.
