I can agree that everyone hates the official launcher (I do as well and use prism and modrinth myself). My point being that off steam It doesnt always mean not trusted. Look at Paradox, EA, and other games that integrate Epic launcher/services.
i also agree that they can have malware. The only difference is the fact that it’s labeled on steam for all the anticheats that are required. otherwise both on and off platform do the same thing.

Being on steam doesnt immediately mean they’re trusted. Look to the recent games that were malware stealing from charaties for example.
Minecraft is also an example of a off platform trusted game with their own proprietary launchers for Java/bedrock. (or third party but also off platform)

flatpak is platform independent, but works flawlessly for me on Bazzite/Fedora

earthquake shifts tetonic plates and we’re screwed

Should I go into work tomorrow?

im always hungry
I raise you this: https://youtu.be/wJBULFJ9980
Ive personally set a rule to ALL emails that i send where they wait 1 minute before they get sent. That way if i remember just after i hit sent that i forgot somethinglike attachments, i can edit it before it actually sends.

You are correct as that is the whole point of that idea where you bind your ID to an account. The entire reason thats a suggestion (not that i like it at all either) is because of the fact anyone can evade:
In what other method is there to prevent some person from evading a ban? To answer your initial question, that is the reason. If Kenerl level anticheats are not acceptable then this is one of the only options left that allows us to bind some person to an account and actually enforce a permaban.
Yes:
But otherwise, there is NOTHING you can tie an account to a person that’s avaliable to enforce a ban. Nothing is unhackable, or unspoofable. Literally a cat n mouse game that has no winners.
Even if it’s worse in your opinion than having kernal level anti-cheat, it’s picking between two deadly poisons. IMO i just dont play games that require anticheat, or play any competitive games. too toxic and stressful for me personally to even install something like that.
Technically Valve themselves is that. That have VAC-anticheat, which is connected to your account. unless you get money into your account soley through gift cards, they have your card info, or paypal. They have drm, but not kernel level. your CC has your legal name, and billing address. About as Government ID as it gets with honestly ANY game with microtransactions in it that allows you to put raw CC details in it.
// as a side thought/rant //
if it’s super necessary to play/engage with those games, why not have a seperate OS specifically for gaming? either to dual boot, or seperate pc altogether, and just pipe the display output as a PIP or use as a second monitor? then its seperated and not compromising of your actual OS?
It also comes down to other loooooads of other factors, but (IMO) it comes down the fact that companies overcharge, (insert other xyz reasons), which people dont want to pay full price or at all for so they pirate, which make companies put more and more invasive drms/anticheats, which snowballs. especially with online stuff, it’s because of the many bad actors (and with how lucrative that business is) that constantly abuse competitive games that IMO originated in good faith, but have had to clamp down super hard that made their protections soo bad. It’s the only way they can protect their playerbase, game, and sales reliably (insert denuvo controversies here).
TLDR: Pick a deadly poison, its all bad ideas. Imo, dont play live service games, and play more indie stuff.

There’s many solutions ive heard like
All these options are based on some level of trust with someone or something and can be easily taken advantage of, but these are concepts nonetheless.

i was verrry confused why the app store was still in my hotbar and still “runnable” threw me into a wild rabbithole trying to figure out how to get it working again.
Without this post i dont think i would’ve realized the tunnel vision i had not realizing there was a completely replaced app for it since i didnt see any notice in the OS >.< Feels like something big enough to warrant a notice for at least some of the users like me who are just oblivious to things that are too obvious when not knowing what were shpposed to look for. Que Gorilla test for general awareness test of obliviouness

uuuuhhhh
I would 100% watch this. This immediately came to mind: (1168)

I reject your reality and insert my own. My argument is vaild anyways~

Along with the green cube being in the same space as 2x2 white cubes, and missing a white cube for the first “step” on the bottom right of the cube staircase. prob where that green cube is supposed to go.
The rounded edges on the right panel are slightly sus, but ill chalk that up to more artistic style to quickly draw lots of cubes than sus.

We just surpassed 800k! over 100k in ~24hrs, this is insane momentum.
We totally got this and can mayyybe complete the petition in 2 days 👀

Ive seen mentioned elsewhere, but recently it looks like they blocked all vpn access. When using newpipe, it all works again for me when i turn off my vpn!
If factory games are up your alley, Factorio is also great. You can completely turn off the enemy forces/bugs and just build stuff. They have native ports for Mac, along with every other OS, and Nintendo Switch!
