7·17 hours agoI’m astounded that a sport made it to the Olympic level without having more stringent observation in place. I used to play Ultimate (frisbee), and regular league play at the college level didn’t have refs. Teams called their own fouls and such and for the most part it worked pretty well. I dunno if things have changed in the past few decades and refs are standard for all games now, but even back then once you were at the regional or national tournament level they had refs (called observers I believe) to make decisions if calls were contested.
If olympic curling had nothing like that my mind is literally blown

If you’ve never been somewhere that has fresh coconut you should try it once. For me old brown coconuts in grocery stores, or dried coconut or the fake flavoring in candies etc = disgusting. Fresh coconut is awesome.

2·1 day agoThis is it. We regulate drugs, so likewise the addictive algorithm needs regulation, but no lawmakers want to go after the oligarchs.
It’s a vaguely similar situation to immigration. If the US really wanted to stop illegal immigration they could take care of the vast majority of it immediately with harsh penalties for any employer caught with illegal employees, but no one wants to actually keep immigrants out because that would be admitting to the fact that they’re crucial to the economy.

The thumb and flash being similar is a clue that it probably isn’t the category, although flash drives are more generally any type of drive with flash memory that connects through USB, and thumb drives are mostly referring to those small USB sticks. But zip is a physical drive (a separate thing from a zip file). It was only around for a few years in a sort of awkward limbo between floppies and CDs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_drive
For the 2018 olympics they did a series where they had athletes swap sports. Some of them had a closer connection (like figure skating and ice hockey) and others just seemed more random.
Then another channel later did some more in-depth vids on the same concept, with even some of the same overlap, like hockey and figure skating

They were transitioning from 80s to 90s TV. This isn’t like the millionth boring anime series that fans say “gets good after episode 150”, it was literally the 2nd try at Trek ever. No one’s saying season 1 or 2 is gold (although there are good eps in there), but the first season is like TOS with growing pains. There’s a reason it got 7 seasons, and if it’d been a total failure none of the other shows would exist.
If you like Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise there’s no way you wouldn’t like TNG. Giving up on the entire run because the first couple seasons weren’t great after an almost 20 year hiatus from TOS is why your position seems a bit strange.
