The weird sexism/girl idolation in a lot of anime is something. Even in more ‘grounded’ shows. It makes my skin crawl whenever I try anime, hence I think Cowboy Beebop and a Ghibli movie or two are the only things I finished.

“Western” animesque animation (Arcane, DCAU, Avatar, Dragon’s Blood…) doesn’t seem to suffer from that as much.

I mean, yeah? So? Too many people are afraid of what…breaking their masculinity? Looking silly to others?

Fuck that. Once you get accustomed to all the half naked lolis and some of the weird sister-fucking fetishes that japanese anime has (and like America doesn’t…“stepbrother help I’m stuck!”) – then a lot of the stories are kind of things that you never see touched in American media.

Honestly, if someone just adapted anime to an American format – Not live-action. Fuck people who keep converting anime to live action. – they’d have a lot of really cool potential on their hands.

Like Gachiakuta - “Givers” taking a precious/loved object and turning them into a badass weapon because they cared for them enough for them to become powerful. The concept and the story behind it is kind of enthralling. It’s too bad you don’t bother with it simply because it’s animated.

Agreed. I don’t like any cartoons tho. Except XKCD, The Land Before Time, and The Lion King. Anime freaks me out on an existential level, and I’ve never gotten along with a single person who loves it for personality clash reasons so it serves as a bellwether for me.
