Something I love about the plazas for some of the older buildings in New York is this extra decoration. A sculpture, or some seating, a few trees, etc. Gives the city some character and allows some space for a food vendor.
a city without a square, or some central park or large open space tends to depress me, especially if the only central hub is just an ugly stroad littered with far too many low density commercial buildings.
but yeah, a simple area to display art and allow some street vendors to exist, also makes a cool meeting spot and space to organize semi-formal events.
(nice pic btw)
(thank you)
Took me a minute, but I found this info:
2022 Metal Orb Sphere Light Sculpture In Front of the Lobby of A B Building - 1345 Avenue of the Americas AKA the Alliance Bernstein Building skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan New York City on Sixth Avenue between 54th and 55th Streets Borg Spheres
Thank you for looking this up! I was just walking while I was there and had no idea where things are
Sure thing. And like Ed Grimley, I must say that it was a little bit tricky, since NYC has some sphere / ball sculptures that are considerably more famous. Bing image search finally worked for me.
Light sculpture? Sounds like it might be really cool at night…
Huh, is that what that meant? I couldn’t find shots of it at night, but then, NYC has a weirdly high number of ‘ball’ sculptures. This one is pleasant:
