A frightening takeoff incident at Houston Airport put two planes on a collision course, as one plane turned right instead of left.

My guess is that the plane taking off on 33L turned their autopilot on early (or maybe just blindly followed their flight director, or whatever they use in the commercial world), which had the heading dialed in and has no way to indicate that the turn should be to the left, so it took the shortest course to that heading.
