Changing the sort method without scrolling down will not reload the comments for posts with over 50 comments. It works fine for posts with under 50 comments. And for those over 50, just scroll down and then change for it to work. Odd.

The top menu doesn’t update after you view a message notification and then swipe to go back to the feed. To remove the icon you need to go back and tap on the mark all read button.
