PizzaCake, the artist behind this comic, made another comic a few years back, satirising a bunch of things men say to women to handwave away bad behaviour (think “not all men” kind of stuff). What she didn’t notice was that with her satirisation, she also dismissed genuine issues that society also tends to dismiss relating to mens mental health.
The mods of r/comics went a bit overboard with the moderation (to be fair, an overwhelming amount of moderated comments have been just pure toxic masculinity, but a bunch of people who said that both toxic masculinity AND the intentional downplay of men’s issues are a problem, got caught in the crossfire).
PizzaCake herself had some… less than savoury reactions, all in all it turned into a shitshow that the chuds blew out of proportion, the mods who stepped in were overbearing and obviously prejudiced, and the overall reactions just… weren’t nice. this should’ve been something that triggers respectful discussion, and both sides were unable to do exactly that.
Later on, the manosphere launched what was essentially a mini gamergate against PizzaCake and bam, now we have a bunch of videos and Reddit posts calling her “pathetic” and other select names, while the people posting said content aren’t better by any measure…
Nothing, the artist made the mistake of being female on the internet who can draw.
Note: there are a LOT of incel-adjacent chuds on Lemmy too, they just mask as more progressive than the ones on reddit where the “controversy” started. Any time a gender issue pops up on Lemmy you see how bad it really is.

I am not obligated to changing my opinion here or leaving it at the door. I am not here to mince words either. It is a bad comic and the rabid fans go to embarrassing lengths to defend it.
If it was a mediocre comic it would not have been spammed as much as it was over on reddit. I would settle for calling it mediocre if its presence over there was also mediocre. It has grown over there like a cancerous tumor throbbing on the neck of reddit feeding off of the blood supply to the brain.
The only good thing the comic did was make leaving reddit easier. If only it and the fans of it would have stayed there.
I personally find her art to be simplistic, and the messaging is very much “mainstream common sense”, with frequent additions of quite opinionated bits.
Again, I don’t mind it, but I can see why for someone who expects at least a level of debate instead of having opinions force fed to them, would find her comics to “suck”.
There can be debate in a comic. As in, characters bringing up talking points and the winner argument winning based on logic.
