    sad British noises

Last week I had to jump through a bunch of hoops because my phone runs Graphene, and I needed to use the government’s new One ID app to prove who I am in order to renew my driving licence. Obviously the app doesn’t work in Graphene, because it relies on Google Play Services, which I have installed and sandboxed, but it ain’t good enough.

So I ended up having to download a pdf letter from .gov.uk to take to the Post Office so I could queue for half an hour so a guy there could say that yes, I do appear to be who I am.

I really, really don’t like that I’m made to feel like a second class citizen because I choose to use a mobile OS that isn’t Google or Apple.

And all of this isn’t to mention that I can’t use my banking app on my phone either.

I feel kinda lucky that my bank (italian) mobile app doesn’t rely on google play services still… Though not sure how long is it going to last

The largest Norwegian bank app has up until now received updates specifically to work with GOS, so hope that continues.

This brings flashbacks from when you required to use IE6 for any “online” paperwork.

I wouldn’t feel like a second class citizen when a less efficient and expensive procedure is kept in place for those that choose to stay out of the walled garden ;)

I mean its still Googles OS it is still Android. Where did this idea start coming from that Graphene is not Android come from or an alternative to Android. It is fucking Android.

They didn’t mention the word Android once, they were talking about Google. That’s also not right as GrapheneOS is based on Android which is developed by Google. Sandboxed Google Play Services are still Google Play Services. People aren’t always exact with their language but we know what they mean. I can’t see that there is an idea around of GrapheneOS not being based on Android.

I mean, yeah, both are based on AOSP, but one of them is more secure than the other. And that one isn’t the one that works with the UK govt ID app.

About fucking time ! It needed a playbook fascist to start to think that the USA was a bad partner. They fucked up the Gemplus (once the smart card leader) to take control of their cryptography, Alstom for nuclear turbines and tried to screw Airbus. Snowden screamed at the world about their spying 20 13 years ago… I guess that’s what you get with a fucking neo liberal constitution.

Edit: I mixed with wikileaks foundation year

Everyone have computers with GBs of empty disk space, we have PQC algorithms, digital signatures, P2P protocols, why people need this data to be in cloud ? The way of thinking is fundamentally broken and supports big corporations and billionaires.

Fucking Australia just let the entire stock exchange record be listed on Amazon Cloud Services, loving the day Trump gets the shits with us again and tells them to switch it off.

So much stupid across our government.

    Hold on a minute.

Their intent here isn’t to protect our online lives. It’s to block out the US spyware and replace it with fucking EU spyware (see government mandated spyware aka age verification)

It’s not that they’re doing something good… They just want to be the ones collecting the data…

Why did this take me so long to realize?

Well, there’s always someone who’ll have access to your data, that’s just how life works, so do you want a say on how that’s used, how much is shared and with whom? Or do you want to hand it over to the US. To me that’s an easy choice.
