9·12 days agoYou can download the game via steam but then run it from the application file directly without using Steam.
There is also a command line tool for downloading Steam games

1·13 days agoSteam Controller really comes into it’s own when you rely on both touchpads.
I usually map the left joystick to the left touchpad on touch, and if I need options for the D-pad map them to the joysticks instead or even touchpad 4 button click.
For side scrolling platformers I just map the D Pad to the left touchpad on touch, and ABXY to the right touchpad on touch.

Also Steam has plenty of non DRM games, like Witcher 3 for example

10·21 days agoI never liked Steam when it was first released, it was problematic, slowed down my machine and caused me frustration.
Now it’s different. I agree with Gene Newell that piracy is a service issue, I haven’t pirated any games since steam started to fill its library with other non Valve games that I wanted.
I also appreciate the additional features that it brings like the community features and guides and managing updates for me.
It’s not perfect, nothing is, buy I prefer it to managing my own files and updates.

1·1 month agoUsing AI for code requires a high level of specificity, software houses that are getting the most out of it are not using it so much inline or vibe coding because as you say that leads to hallucinations or having to repeat yourself.
The common approach now is to use multiple agents with different responsibilities, the human effectively becomes a team leader and uses one chatbot to orchestrate a plan being very specific about the outcomes and the requirements and breaking the plan down into phases,
Another agent will be used to write the code, they will have set rules files to keep them on guard rails, they will check their work as they go and deliver a pull request at the end of it for the human to check and approve
The next agent will be there to write tests and check the work of the second agent.
It’s a lot more work than writing a single prompt and expecting a good outcome or close approximation, but it is getting better results now.

107·1 month agoThe reality is software engineers will use AI or will find themselves out of work as they won’t have the skills to get hired.
Customers may never know if AI is used as a tool in game creation but it will always be part of any software and development studio.
Using AI for music or design assets is totally different from using it for the code base and blanket statements don’t improve the situation

16·1 month agoI won’t hold my breath, but I would welcome it.
I think it’s a bit outdated now though, they are behind on Wayland support and their DE is quite poor.
I agree that it’s very stable however and easy to run software.
These days I would recommend Fedora or Ubuntu, maybe Debian.
