Just following up, I bought some white clover and it has really taken off! This fall I’m going to get a huge bag and overseed my entire lawn.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Microsoft has pulled back on over a gigawatt of planned data center capacity, suggesting that they do not think there is a growth future in generative AI
1·1 year agoAnyone running a newer MacBook Pro can install Ollama and run it with just a few commands:
brew install ollama
ollama run deepseek-r1:14b
Then you can use it at the terminal, but it also has API access, so with a couple more commands you can put a web front end on it, or with a bit more effort you can add it to a new or existing app/service/system.

3·1 year agoUnfortunately I think most businesses will still prefer that their AI solution is hosted by a company like OpenAI rather than maintaining their own. There’s still going to be a need for these large data centers, but I do hope most people realize that hosting your own LLM isn’t that difficult, and it doesn’t cost you your privacy.

I mean, you can tell when something is written from ChatGPT, especially if the person isn’t using it for editing, but is just asking it to write a complaint or request. It is likely they are only counting the most obvious, so the actual count is higher.

4·1 year agoYou’re exactly right. A one day boycott doesn’t work. For it to work your need to have a day when you don’t consume anything. But even then, that isn’t feasible.
Cancel your subscriptions, and don’t start them up again.
Divest your 401k from US money markets.
Get involved in your local government and start focusing on ways that your community can provide local services.
If you know where a morally corrupt CEO is going to be staying, let your local Luigi know.
These aren’t easy things, but they can be effective.
Yes, that’s how it works when one thing is more expensive than another thing. But people do save up money through one part of their life to spend during another part of their life. And they aren’t the only people who used to think that Tesla’s were cool tech cars.

7·1 year agoThere’s a reason no one lives in fucking Wyoming. Why should they move from their seaside country to middle of nowhere Wyoming?
Let’s move them to Florida’s South East Coast. There’s hardly anyone important there, and we can just relocate the people there a bit further inland.

And he still thinks trump gives a shit about him and would even entertain having a conversation with him.
And fuck this guy… why does his wife deserve to be in the US and not all of the other people who were grabbed?

431·1 year agoThis is a lot like how our government is all concerned about National Security™ when it comes to pretty much anything else, but a bipartisan bill, supported by both of the last 2 presidents, and upheld unanimously by our current dysfunctional Supreme Court, with National Security™ as the excuse, and we still have Tiktok.
Laws are only there so the ruling class can keep us in line and them in power, and they will never be enforced homogenously.

This isn’t true, a lot of corporations use and benefit from the foss and they should be supporting those projects.
They should also be supporting projects that could replace the applications that they spend millions on each year. When your CIO says that they are using ‘whatever corpo system’ because a viable open source project doesn’t exist, they should start funding the non-viable projects so they can become viable.
