  • Are you trying to use that as a dunk because when you actually live under oppression from fascists you REALLY need your opposition party to be effective. Harris winning in 2024 was never going to solve a problem that she was part of, it was only going to delay the inevitable and I can promise you that all of the anti-trans legislation and the pro-genocide action still would have actually happened. Or are you as unwilling to listen to a person that belongs to a scapegoated community as your ancestors were?

  • I think if you put the responsibility on the voters and not the coalition of politicians that claim to represent them, after a while that starts to seem less like advocacy and more like victim blaming.

    As a trans person, the past decade has progressively gotten more terrifying. For me, a politician that is actively trying to harm me is not going to be meaningfully distinct from a politician that is not trying to shield me from the repressive harm that is already built into the system.

    Furthermore, I do not think shaming people for taking a stance on genocide is going to win anyone over aside from people who support genocide. The Democrats may have handled things differently but that doesn’t mean it’d be better for the Palestinians or the Middle East.

    When a party won’t stand up for marginalized people and victims of genocide how can they be trusted to defend anyone when in power? At a certain point you have to recognize the problem, even if you still vote for them. Voter shaming people who reject the harm won’t fix it.

  • Kinda hard for me to answer that ATM. When I got mine, it was gifted to me by someone who upgraded to an OLED model. I was originally going to buy one but Valve wasn’t going to hold onto a Steam Deck long enough for me to transfer money from my bank to PayPal so I let someone else buy it. (Which was the exact one that was later gifted to me so it’s like fate!) And also I was going through some intense burnout when it was gifted to me and I’m still kinda recovering. Like, intense enough that it impacted my ability to do recreational activities too. It sucked.

    All that said, I don’t really use it much yet so it’s hard to justify it’s worth and my own use case. I had considered using it as a back up PC for when I don’t want to be bound to my bedroom but I already have an option for that. But I would argue it makes a pretty decent desktop. I have used it in that capacity quite a bit. Other than that sometimes I use it when I want to play a game in my bed or while standing/pacing.

    I’ve never really been one for portable gaming so I’m not prone to taking it to town with me and I only recently acquired non-roommate local friends so I haven’t had much chance to take it with me while visiting them either. So yeah I dunno if I can justify it’s worth. If the shortages weren’t what they are and if they had a $400 or less model I’d suggest it. Especially for the age. But IDK. If you can find one on eBay or something for a decent price point I don’t think it’d be a bad purchase.

  • I recently put CachyOS on my Steam Deck because I wanted more control than what Steam OS was offering me. Also I prefer to install native apps most the time. ^^;;;

    I also bought a second hand Surface Pro 7 and installed Cachy on that as well and now it’s my primary tablet device. (Have an iPad but I don’t want to be in Apple’s ecosystem.) So far I’ve been really happy with it.

    I’ve been daily driving Endeavour OS for the past … 3 years? So this is not really a big switch for me. I might consider installing that if/when I decide to reinstall my primary Desktop OS ^^;;;

  • Obesity wouldn’t be the problem it is if it were just a personal choice. Plenty of people hardly have time for a healthy diet and lots of the quick, cheap, and easy options are calorie dense and addictive. It is very easy to unknowingly eat way too many calories without realizing it.

    I won’t say I didn’t laugh at the joke. I did. But having been fat myself I can say that having people give me shit for my weight would never be helpful. Normalizing body shaming is more likely to create eating disorders and depression than it is to help fat people lose weight.

    You don’t need to shame fat people to shame Nazis.

    1. I am vegan. I know what I’m talking about.
    2. All kinds of people call themselves a vegan without without actually being one.
    3. It’s not a no true Scotsman because I’m using the actual definition for what veganism is, the one given by the vegan society. You’re making a category error here.
    4. I will absolutely fight language when language is wrong. I have had several times in my life where I gave up the colloquial definitions that I’ve lived with in order to have my views more accurately reflect the words that members of specific communities use to define themselves. Otherwise I’d think that bisexuals only dated men and women, ace people are incapable of romantic attraction, all feminists hate men, and that trans people can’t be trans without clinically diagnoseable dysphoria.
    5. Thanks for the luck, but I’m blocking you. Have a lovely day.

  • The fact that most people don’t think about it critically doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be explained and telling people who belong to a group that they can’t tell you what their group specifically is about is entitled and absurd.

    Veganism is not a diet and there are a number of diets you may adopt while being vegan.

    I can accept that the harm reductionism that Danielle is advocating for is good compared to the lack of restraint we have as a culture, but this does not make it vegan.
