It’s obviously 2020 because it starts at basically zero cases. Also it’s weird that your expect rigor from memes.

I too would want a robe, mask, and gun if these fools approached me.
I shared this with a buddy and he responded with his favorite.

62·2 days agoCame here to recommend LGIO too. Cracks me up, I’ve seen basically every video.
Some of the best stuff these days is actually on the unofficial youtube channel where they repost segments from the twitch streams, esp. when Josh collabs with other folks. There’s this UK streamer, Lollipop or something (I really need to look her up) and she might be even funnier than him. But they’re great together.
Anyway, the chaos is very cathartic for a longtime gamer.

Ask Science@lemmy.world•Have we put shackles on AI yet? Like harm no human or anything? Are we suppose to see robots with AI like ourselves? Is it murder if they are seen like humans and i destroy one?English
1·3 days agoI don’t exactly disagree, but I suspect humans were domesticating plants and animals well before capitalism was a thing. Domesticated dogs for example are rather dependent on us and wouldn’t survive well in the wild. Yes “property” and “ownership” are loaded terms but I think there can be some similar underlying truth in regards to our relationship with other things.
In some ways that can extend to nonliving objects or entities. If you create a piece of earthenware from nothing but clay and fire and your own hands, you own it and it’s your property in a sense unrelated to capitalism. As in, you would not be happy if someone stole it or broke it or used it to commit a crime, and you would inherently consider your relationship to that object in your daily treatment of it and your reaction to those events.
And I’d say some of those aspects would extend to an AI or agent. Of course virtually all of the LLMs and other AI/ML models (to my knowledge) have been created within in a capitalistic society so as you point out they have all the additional baggage that comes with that. I’m just saying that’s not 100% of their attributes. The way you treat something should also respect the labor and materials that went into it.
And that’s actually a problem with many of these LLMs that were trained on the creative works of others, but that’s crossing into a whole other topic…

1·4 days agoWhat the fuck does something being your property have to do with that thing deserving a certain bar of treatment? You need to examine the dangerous implications of that line of thinking and grapple with it.
I think a lot of people would put pets or even houseplants in that category, and argue that you have an ethical responsibility for their basic care.
But to be more general (since digital systems are not alive), any physical property requires at least some amount of energy and resources. So if you blatantly abuse your tools, you’re probably wasting things like electricity or mined metals (via poor operation or need for replacement), in addition to your own time and money.

Silksong@indie-ver.se•Did Hornet being a talking protagonist change how you perceive/play her in contrast to the silent protagonist in Hollow Knight?English
12·5 days agoNah. She’s a very dry character and her lines are generally quite short so it didn’t phase me much. Mostly I was just happy to play out part of her story since she was one of the coolest characters from the original game.

Probably more of a question of what did they do that isn’t worth resentment, based on how colonialism has historically operated.

politics @lemmy.world•Why Isn't News of Trump Building Vast Concentration Camps Being Treated as a National Emergency?
2·7 days agoRight, but I’m saying those votes didn’t just come out of thin air. The GOP has been tipping the scales to give themselves more and more power for decades, to where it’s now evident they basically own all major US media. They seized control of the senate and representative seats that let them funnel more and more bribes, buy out the media, and control the narrative. Eventually that led to presidential wins.
The average person just wants to get by. They vote for whever convinces them it’ll be less painful, or convinces them that the pain (e.g. restrictions on freedom, austerity, destroying diversity) will somehow be worthwhile.
EDIT: Late fix to a wrong autocompleted word.

politics @lemmy.world•Why Isn't News of Trump Building Vast Concentration Camps Being Treated as a National Emergency?
72·14 days agoNot exactly. Please read up on gerrymandering and the Electoral College. These two factors have been increasingly rigged over the past decades in order to enable a large and vocal minority to put fascists in office. It wasn’t just simple majority votes, it’s been a sustained systematic attack.
