I have a chicken fact here! They can repair their hearing if it’s damaged.

Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I've had this puzzle on my phone for years. Every few months I'd glance at it and try and solve it. Last night, as I was eating dinner, I finally figured out the answer!
3·4 days agoGot it. Nice puzzle.
First I figured out what was meant by the number 7 isn’t a typo, by jumping to the wrong solution. Next I figured out the next idea was and it worked. No spoilers ༼ᕗຈل͜ຈ༽ᕗ

Technology@lemmy.ml•[Video] China showcases humanoid robot kung-fu performance at Chinese Lunar New Year show
30·6 days agoThat’s extremely impressive. As soon as these can do this stuff on random surfaces and with spatial awareness then we are probably past the event horizon for some significant, scary and futuristic shit.

World News@quokk.au•Orban says EU bigger threat to Hungary than Russia
10·9 days agoIf Hungary left wouldn’t this actually strengthen the EU? I thought they often made things difficult with vetoes, but I’m no expert.

Lord Of The Rings Memes@piefed.social•It's honestly a bit of an overreaction
3·13 days agoThe goblins were alerted by the bucket, but it was because Gandalf lost his shit that they swarmed. Fool of a Maia!
I have those random realisations on the theme of ‘hey that woman who was on my sofa last month wanted to have sex with me’
Make sure you’re really mean else I may not notice.
The front garden is not space to get cozy in the UK, especially if you live somewhere where neighbours pose for compo face for the local paper, have a triple head crease at the head neck neutral zone, keep white goods or sofas in the front garden etc. I expect if you explore the area where this photo was taken, there is a pub with a flat roof and no other amenities than a chip shop, bookies, vape shop.
For the record, I absolutely love places like this

Lord Of The Rings Memes@piefed.social•This happens to me all the time
3·14 days agoThis might get me banned from the community, but on several occasions I’ve watched the fellowship up until Frodo wakes up in Rivendell and then gone to bed. It’s a natural enough ending when I’ve bitten off more than I can chew.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Man posts his incorrect opinion online
3·17 days agoShoes ok downstairs, but usually off except for if I’m about to go out and roaming about finding things. Guests do what they prefer and I usually mention it’s fine to leave them if they prefer. I think the fact that I have dogs is important. My floor normally has paw prints and hair so I wouldn’t expect a person to take off their shoes downstairs, it’s pretty much like the dogs leave their shoes on spoiling it for everyone.

Backyard Chickens (and Other Birds)@lemmy.ca•My leghorns dust bath all the time and now their white feathers arent white. Is it okay to give them a bath with shampoo and conditioner?
2·18 days agoThere’s shampoos that are safer for animals, it’s not unheard of to wash animals but completely unnecessary based on what you’re describing. So long as you don’t do it too often or cause undue stress, it’s your time and money so go for it.
Alternatively, you could provide them with specific dust to bath in that won’t discolor them. You can mix herbs and perfumed things in to the dust which can even have some health benefits.
Surely a contender for OoTY 🧸
Makes more sense when you consider him a Russian asset; weakening NATO and the US position as a super power.

Backyard Chickens (and Other Birds)@lemmy.ca•They always pay rent on time
1·23 days agoI’ve got some leghorn mixes with the same black splodges. They’ve been non stop all winter, which I didn’t expect.
I might get some flak for this, but this nest looks like it needs a lot more work. After reading the caption and scrolling down I had a little chuckle, I expected something grander. She knows best though of course!

Chess@lemmy.ml•What are some 'rules of thumb' you've found most useful for chess?
3·27 days agoDeveloping your pieces and contesting the centre instead of capturing pawns in the opening will always give you a playable position. Sometimes a pawn is actually free, but in general you can focus on development without being worse off. Get it wrong and that extra pawn might make the rest of the game an uphill battle.

World News@lemmy.world•Alex Honnold completes live Netflix free solo climb of Taipei 101 without safety gearEnglish
12·29 days agoThe climb is so trivial for him that it is just easy money. I’m an amateur climber and I would do this if I was given the permission and 1/10th of the money.
Yes there’s a chance of things going wrong, but it’s like betting against Anthony Joshua in his Jake Paul cash grab. Maybe even less risk than that.
His previous solos were more outrageous but always treated with a degree of respect and preparation. It’s what has put him in a position to be able to do this exhibition.
Your outrage is exactly the kind of thing Netflix want and it’s why it’s been done live.

Formula 1@lemmy.world•Netflix confirm release date for Drive to Survive Season 8 (February 27, 2026)
1·1 month agoI’ve always liked how this show seems to concentrate on stories other than the championship, I’ll be interested to see what they have in store.

Magnificent. Thanks for sharing.
