PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•GamingOnLinux.com: "Letter from the owner [Liam Dawe] - our stance on generative AI"English
3·13 days agoWhat makes it even sadder is that outlets usually get press releases and press kits, or are part of newsletters and other communication materials.
If they are that lazy, they could just publish those verbatim with the images provided (given they are not AI junk too).

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•GamingOnLinux.com: "Letter from the owner [Liam Dawe] - our stance on generative AI"English
7·13 days agoIt is nice to read that.
When I read a publication is because I want to read someone’s perspective, not to get an LLM cold (and often shitty) summary, or most often, vomit of words.
I was quite successful with Yocto Project for the SoCs I use.

2·30 days agoThanks for the recommendation.
I played the game and Replaced might be the best thing I played this Next Fest so far. I had to find this post back just to thank you.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Should Canada Help Build Trump’s Golden Dome? | The Walrus
3·1 month agoIt seems like USA just wants to bomb things without the fear of retaliation.
But it is most likely another US scam. It is sus every time they start with:
- psst kid, here is what they don’t want you to know…
- you should be afraid of …, they are here to hurt you
- it is for the kids
The first question to ask is “Will the Golden Dome prevent US from bombing Canada?”, then it is protection money.

Canada@lemmy.ca•An Alberta man wanted MAID. Instead, he died in a Catholic hospital, waiting to be transferred
51·1 month agoThis saddens me much.
Growing up, I witness family members denying life-saving care on religious grounds, while on the same branch of the family another person died because they could not afford the exams and treatment (we only learned after the death).
I wish we could keep ignorance away from public funded institutions (and private too) and provide people with the care they need with love and respect.

4·1 month agoMy suggestions are:
Scott Pilgrim EX Beat’em up RPG in the universe of Scott Pilgrim, it is a well-made game even if you don’t know that IP.
Wax Heads You work in a record store matching LPs to customers and helping local bands.
Phonopolis Beautifully-made point & click adventure(cardboard style), with well-made puzzles.
Pluto I went for the art, but really liked the mechanics to cast spells. You can put an element on each of your fingers that matches the pattern of a spell card. If a spell ends in water, and another starts with water you can chain them to use fewer fingers. There is a bunch of mechanics going on to modify the behaviour of your fingers, like rings, power ups, or enemy curses.

11·1 month agoHypocritical to promote more wars and invasions as a solution of more wars and invasions. Other nations are already tired of US and Russia warmongering and disrupting nations across the globe since I was a toddler, it is just as evident now as it was back them.
Why don’t you two go play in your own lands!
You promote a lot of violence for someone modding a, supposedly, anti-war community.

1·1 month agoI see. I thought you were being critical of Russia’s warmongering, since this community appears to be about mindless wars promoted by oligarchy.
I am also excited about solar energy. You would probably have a better public if you post on any of those communities if you have strong beliefs this is for the betterment of society. There is a whole lemmy instance about solar power.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•New Steam Games with Native Linux Builds, including Cinicross and Shadows of the Afterland - 2026-02-11 EditionEnglish
2·1 month agoIt is nice that most of them have demos.
Jackal is good, I recommend if you like games like Hotline Miami. It is similar but more forgiving, and you have some weird powers. (There is a button “download demo” on the right panel).
I need to give the others a try, I am curious about Shadows of the Afterland.
I noticed that most people I bump into that says they are not into politics, they mean partisan politics. Often from places where they are disenfranchised about their civics.
But if you bring up “holly shit, did you see the price of milk is 7CAD?”. They will be more than happy to provided their cents on why and think about solutions.
Dude “wrote” a book on negotiations, but only knows how to play one tune.
And USA congress keeps trying to vote to end those tariffs on Canada.
If Carney’s team is smart, by the time USA move on, we would have stronger ties with the rest of the world and business with USA would be optional.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canadians kind of hate America now. Our new poll shows just how much.
151·1 month agoIt will be really hard to be friends again when at least 70 millions USA citizens voted for this in 3 different occasions. And only a few did a thing to prevent it.
Going back to USA would be like a spouse who keeps going back to an abusive partner.
I hope we improve our friendship with the rest of the world for some peace of mind.

1·1 month agoIs the community changing to add Russia Empire’s thirst for endless war, its military and oil oligarchies and colonization of allies as well? I thought it was just about US Empire’s thirst for endless war.
I agree, war is bad, and it is good to put them all under scrutiny.

Seems like NDP is doing a good job then.
Should the candidates try for UCP instead? Their values seem to be aligned with some branches of that party.

Boycott US@lemmy.ca•Adobe backlash is getting louder — time to escape proprietary creative tools?English
12·2 months agoEarly 2010s I asked the company I worked for to approve some free game engines to be installed. The legal department returned a big no with pages of why Unity should not be allowed in the premises. We proceeded with Unreal, Blender and eventually Godot as tools any employee could install.
Unity was bad back them, it is just that people did not read the agreements and tech sheet. Their new leadership just made that more apparent.
Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I will read more on the Clarity Act and the history of constitutional reform (I see this being mentioned every time someone talk about electorate reform).
All bets are off if the US decides to pull a Donbas on us, of course.
That would be terrifying.

tl;dr: it is probably Deadlock, use a VPN to force a different the server/route.
@hello_there Does your computer support wifi6? What time of the day are you playing Deadlock?
As others mentioned, you need to isolate the problem. The usual suspects are:
mtr, linssid, nmcli… there are many out there. Use something that would monitor for a while, since you said that the spikes happen every 10 seconds. If you are willing to move your computer, or get a longer cable to your antenna, or to buy wifi6 antenna with a long cable: you can get a phone app to do the strength test and check for better spots nearby. The other suspects do not happen so often, but:
A faulty Wi-Fi device, but the 10 seconds interval is a bit weird for it. And you would see a bunch of errors in your logs. If you want to rule that out, get one of those wifi-usb dongle with a big USB extension, or one of those fancy ones from TP-Link or Netgear that comes with big cables and antennas.
If you think it might be a fedora update, you can rollback to test it. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-coreos/manual-rollbacks/
I am inclined to think it is Deadlock because I played it for a while, and from my list, it was the only thing inconsistent and extremely erratic. From one day to another, it would go from small spikes, to something that looked like randomizing my ping between 45 and 350 every couple of seconds. One of those days it was connecting me to Amsterdam servers, with a hop in Buenos Aires first. And sometimes it would change depending on the time of the day. The game is not released yet, and their servers are still experimental.
Sadly, there is no way to force a server at the time, not sure if they implemented that yet. And there were plenty of people complaining on their forums about those problems. There, you might find a case similar to yours with a different solution, but what worked for me sometimes was to use a VPN and chose a location in the same city as the server closest to me. When that failed, I would try a different city for the VPN.
