Sure and that gets a wikipedia page for you to cite. You’re not wrong, just heavily downplaying the problem with this whataboutism. It’s not about France where this thing is an exception, but about the US where this is becoming the norm.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Anyone old enough to have used this before GPS?
8·2 days agoBy the time I started driving, we already had gps, but I do remember my dad pulling those folder or foldable maps when driving somewhere for the first time. His advice on how to read these things was “Look for the river crossings. It usually doesn’t matter much which road you take, you will always end up at the same crossings.”
And this is why, when planning a road trip in the pre-waze days, I would always check the river crossings first and when is a low traffic time to cross them, because you don’t want to be stuck for 2 hours because an ungodly amount of drivers need to be squeezed through a narrow tunnel.
But nowadays it’s hardly relevant anymore, only to make sure you don’t take too long of a lunch/dinner break or get stuck in said situation.
On a serious note, I think taking out Russia as a threat is exactly what Europe should do now that it’s weak, in order to secure the Eastern flank in case the US goes completely funny.

World News@lemmy.world•Zelenskyy says 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed since Russia's 2022 full-scale invasionEnglish
8·3 days agoThe bbc listed 160k confirmed Russian deaths at the end of 2025, with estimates of the actual total between 248 and 325k. So probably around 5-1 which is high for attackers vs defenders (I think historically this is estimated at a 3-1 disadvantage, so 1 defender dies for every 3 attackers).
Meaning Ukraine is doing a pretty good job and Russia a terrible one. Nothing new there
Reminds me of a Scottish bagpiper, Bill Millin, during WW2 who played during the D-Day landing. The German snipers deliberately avoided shooting at him because they thought it was so ballsy and awesome. The guy survived the war.

2·6 days agoAt least his aides wouldn’t have to deal with the hologram of president Poopypants shitting itself.
The commercial was just the sister happy to see her brother again and having a cup of coffee together. College humor expanded on it and made a follow up sketch where they have an incestuous relationship that’s tearing the family apart.

Videos@lemmy.world•The Liverpool man who drove his car into 100 people will be able to drive again. The judge ruled that he can apply for a driver's license after prison
9·9 days agoThat is exactly how it should work and not nearly enough people recognize that. It’s part of the social contract: You break the rules, you get punished. After the punishment, you are a full member of society again.
Otherwise you just get punished again and that should not be the case.
Well, the size of the bill often changes my mind. 35€ for 2 burgers delivered with soggy fries? Guess I will make that fried rice after all.

521·9 days agoIt’ll be quantum computing. Since the last hype around it, a lot of progress has been made to the point that quantum computers are actually becoming useful, since error correction is now mostly resolved.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft lost $357 billion in market cap as stock plunged most since 2020English
15·10 days agoI initially thought he was great. Their cloud business was booming, it looked like they were converging their tools, windows 10 had its flaws but was pretty good. But now the tools are an enormous mess because they have changed their minds 5 times over, Windows 11 is complete dogshit and all the tools that are actually handy are paywalled behind expensive licences. Copilot is being forcefed to unwilling users and every single one of their tools is becoming worse.
So yea, I think he’s a business illiterate because there is no strategy behind this mess.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Question for the Americans. If Canada, Venezuela, Mexico, or Greenland dropped a nuke on Washington DC, would you be angry at the bomb dropper, or would you think we had that coming?
12·11 days agoListen mate, the capital of Greenland is literally Nuuk. Isn’t it always winter there? As if it were a man-made nuclear winter? The Americans merely built the bomb, but the Greenlanders are the bomb. Don’t open your mouth against the Inuit or they will intuit a nuke into it.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•Farewell, half head of cabbage
13·11 days agoSeriously though, cabbages are always too big. We always buy the smallest we can find and maybe use 2/3 of it, and we eat a decent amount of cabbage.
When I started in IT as a greenhorn, they gave me 2 trainings: a basic explanation about enterprise networking and a training on how to troubleshoot effectively.
That network training was forgotten quickly because it would be many years before it became relevant to my job, but that troubleshooting training was absolute gold.
I have given similar trainings many times since, because it’s one of, if not the most important aspects of problem solving.
And it applies to anything really, not just IT. I look at medical doctors and I see them basically troubleshooting their way through the issues their patients have. Lawyers troubleshoot their way out of legal quandaries, politicians out of embarrassing situations, etc…
It’s a skill and a highly valuable one.

A group of them is called an embarrassment.
