News@lemmy.world•Starmer: Britain’s ‘Brexit years’ are over and we need Europe, not Donald Trump
212·11 hours agoSorry, but the EU won’t accept the pre-Brexit deal with the UK. One just can’t have the cake and eat it. The EU don’t want another time wasting happening with other countries leaving the union as well, and regretting only to come back as if nothing happened.

16·13 hours agoI really fucking hope that this Munich security conference isn’t our time’s “Munich Agreement”.
Napoleon did a lot to emancipate Europe from the old aristocratic order, granted freedom to many states, and spread liberal ideals; and yet he created his own dynasty and was harsh to the Germans. Genghis Khan slaughtered millions, but was kind to his subjects who did submit to his rule. Women had rights at a time when patriarchy has been dominant. He allowed religious tolerance and art and commerce flourished under his domain.
History is not as black and white as you think it is.

It’s been a long time and I can’t find the source now, although I distinctly remember reading the part of the constitution while debating with the said supremacist. I admit, either it may have been the party’s constitution or China’s constitution itself.

5·1 day agoIt takes decades for innovative products, or seemingly useless ideas, to be commercially viable. That’s why the best response, when asked what is the purpose of doing research on seemingly useless topics, is to say “I don’t know, but I know it’s going to be taxed someday.”

It’s interesting what they’ve done, they separated the iconic personas of Batman into two separate characters. The one you see now is Owlman, who is the rich, trustfund kid, but dweeb version of Batman. Meanwhile, another character named Rohrscach, who is poor, but personifies the badass, street smart and indomitable version of Batman. An Easter egg at the opening credits of the film are the Waynes dying, including Bruce. Those two personas of Batman went to those characters instead, because Batman doesn’t exist in this universe.
