Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I spent the night for a stupid reason at a police station and people know it without knowing the reason behind it, what would be the most honorable way to get around this unfortunate episode?
21·3 days agoMost honorable? Just tell them you made a stupid mistake. You don’t need to share the details. Will they talk? Sure. But you don’t need to share if you don’t want to.
Least shameful? You were mistaken for someone else who made a stupid mistake and didn’t have your ID on you. They let you go when they realized you weren’t who they thought.
Mashed potatoes with kielbasa and dill?
Surprised not to see Horizon Zero Dawn/ Forbidden West on this list! Have you played them?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•why is the beginning on the left and the end on the right?
2·5 days agoAbsolutely. If you learn about visual hierarchy in design, one of the first things that you learn is that those who have language that read from left to right will instinctively look at the top left, across, and top to bottom, in kind of an “F” pattern.
This guy’s a fraud. Birds don’t have lungs, they have series of air sacs.
edit: my bad, I should take this course. The lungs move the air through the air sacs

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•They wonder why nobody wants kids anymore.
1·6 days agoA lot of places have it set up as “compassion leave”. Usually it’s done by the employee association and they approve it for personal tragedies. If someone’s house burns down, for example.
I learned at my local humane society that when it was established it was for looking after unwanted children because children were considered chattel. I think marriage was a business transaction, at least in western cultures.
Or maybe add some extra trailing 0s… fractions of a cent exist, right?

21·7 days agoI use Mio or other “flavour enhancer drops” for carbonated water to make all kinds of different sodas. My favourite is either cherry blackberry or pomegranate. I know it doesn’t help with the cake situation, but hopefully you can at least still make some fun water.

Games@lemmy.world•Meta progression in roguelites was fun for a while, but it's starting to feel unrewardingEnglish
2·7 days agoBut Scylla and the Sirens featuring Charybdis doesn’t feel as different to me as say the Collector vs the Champ. I like the randomness and didn’t realize until this comment- though you could argue the music for the Scylla fight is random at least!

4·8 days agoYou just made me appreciate Slay the Spire more with the boss choices for each act. I didn’t realize until this comment how refreshing that is. Even Hades 1 had some variety in the first two boss fights (which fury was showing up, what kind of heads Lernie had…)

182·9 days agoStill victim blaming. How do you decide what someone else chooses to be called? 27 years is a long time, and there are a lot of good reasons to hold onto a name even after the person you shared it with turns out to be bad for you. Does everyone who estranges from their father need to change their last name if that’s who they got it from?

Oof, I think there was a convention of some sort hosted in Switzerland that settled some of these ethical questions in a fairly defined way, a little while back.
Edit: this was me being cheeky about the Geneva convention- unlawful deportation is a war crime. For real though, if you aren’t familiar with the Nuremberg trials, the “superior orders defence” has been settled- no ethical quandary about it. It’s illegal to follow illegal orders.
