I agree that the system sucks and that, IRL, they’re bad people and harmful to society. Still a good movie though.

32·4 days agoIt doesn’t upset me. It just doesn’t interest me. Neither do you, for that matter.

62·2 days agoHonestly, if you’re reading “Live and let live, and absolutely respect everyone’s right to be whatever they want” as some sort of thinly disguised transphobia then I’m not sure what to say. This is exactly the reason I prefer to avoid these conversations.

42·4 days agoWhere are you getting that?
I mean, FFS my comment literally said “Live and let live, and absolutely respect everyone’s right to be whatever they want”. And now I don’t want other people to exist? How do you even get through a day?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite thing about the fediverse or lemmy?
43·4 days agoIndeed you can, and that was my point. If a significant portion of posts here were on Basketball I’d make broadly the same argument. This is hardly an insanely busy place as is, so if a specific topic that I’m not interested in is frequently posted surely you can see how that impacts the experience from my perspective. I’ve neither the time nor inclination to curate a feed. Did that on Reddit when I had to, but we’re not there yet. I’m simply answering the question.

163·4 days agoSometimes I don’t really want to get into a conversation about trans issues. I find the topic very prevalent on here, as if I’ve strayed into a sub by accident. Live and let live, and absolutely respect everyone’s right to be whatever they want, but it’s not a topic I can contribute to - and I certainly I don’t want to upset anyone by wading into an emotive topic I have no experience, interest or knowledge on, so I’d rather just leave it.
I’m just saying that it’s up there with LINUX as a prevailing topic, which I’m similarly disinterested in.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What band/artist have you seen live more than once, would gladly go see again, and what keeps you coming back?
2·6 days agoI had a chance to see Pearl Jam and the Pixies in Hyde Park, London. In the end I settled for a wet weekend in a caravan with my kids and my wife’s fam as we’d planned it ages before. My mate went and sent me a video of Video of them playing Even Flow, on a glorious sunny evening at the gig. I could have cried!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How did you feel after your first breakup?
4·8 days agoI initiated it, but she readily agreed. I think we both knew after 5 years together that it wasn’t working. I remember hugging and driving away and then suddenly feeling really upset. It was the uncertainty I didn’t like. I’d grown used to having a partner for events, movies etc.
I’m married now with a family and, surprisingly, never really think of any of my exes. But at the time, yeah, I found it quite unsettling.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something you dont care to understand or "get"?
14·8 days agoStreaming gaming. I barely game (almost never), so the idea of watching others do it as entertainment is bizzare to me.
I’m cleary in a minority, my kids do it and I’m told it’s akin to watching sports, but whatever - i’m just answering the question Goddamit!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it bad to have a male best friend when you’re in a relationship?
2·9 days agoCompletely agree. I think ideally your significant other should be regarded as your ‘best’ friend. You can, of course, have other friends. However, if my wife was confiding in another man, to speak plainly, I’d find that hurtful.

Crisps. Think you guys call them chips. I love 'em.
Trans stuff. I really have no strong opinions on gender and it doesn’t interest me in the slightest. Whenever I have discussed it when asked directly I just become aware of my own ignorance. I don’t want to upset or hurt anyone and don’t feel engaged enough to dig much beyond a basic sort of live and let live philosophy.
It’s not a slur, and in no way offensive as far as I’m concerned, but it’s not going to take off in the way you guys hope. Just cause a small percentage of the population use it, the majority of people probably find it unnecessary. It’s like calling people non- billionaires. It’s an unnecessary step for most folk in their daily lives.

I’m locked in to an energy tariff for the next year, so my supply price (in theory) can’t go up.
But I do have an oil fuelled heating system in our house, as we leave rurally. We accidentally ran out of oil just before the strikes on Iran, so managed to get a full tank before the prices went up by over 40%. Saved about £350, so from our perspective we got lucky.
