That is mostly true when the moon stands directly above the equator, however its orbit isn’t fixed to the equator so the duration can vary during a month the same way the duration of the sun being in the sky varies over the year. So especially near the poles it is possible to see the moon for more than 24 hours or not at all for multiple days.

This sounded very wrong to me, so I googled and apparently they had a setup where the reflected air from the sail caused a net flow in the opposite direction allowing them to move forwards. But that is less effective than just blowing the air straight backwards without a sail.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How realistic is it for me to learn Japanese so that I can experience Anime better? How long would it take to learn? Has anyone attempted this?
6·4 months agoAs someone who has tried studying all three languages, Korean and Japanese are actually quite similar. Many grammar patterns like particles and conjugations can be directly translated and many loanwords from Chinese sound very similar in both languages. So knowing either one certainly does make learning the other one easier.

4·6 months agoAdolescents attending schools with restrictive, compared to permissive policies had lower phone (adjusted mean difference −0.67 h, 95% CI −0.92 to −0.43, p = 0.00024) and social media time (adjusted mean difference −0.54 h, 95% CI −0.74 to −0.36, p = 0.00018) during school time, but there was no evidence for differences when comparing usage time on weekdays or weekends.

5·2 years agoMaybe ご多忙中 (ごたぼうちゅう) is a good example? Something like “Excuse me for interrupting you when you are so busy”.

3·2 years agoI can’t think of any off the top of my head, but might reply again later. You could also check out some 四字熟語, although those are more like proverbs rather than words. Eg. http://www.edrdg.org/projects/yojijukugo.html

4·2 years agoI would translate のこと as ‘regarding’ or ‘about’. It shouldn’t really change the meaning but is just a slightly more indirect way of saying ‘the weather will be x’. Maybe you’ve also heard of あなたのことが好き(すき)です as a way to confess your feelings. The meaning should be the same as あなたが好きです but it might be perceived as more indirect and polite I guess.

2·2 years agoWhile there seems to be a more specific explanation in this case, I believe it’s fairly common that for onomatopoeic or mimetic words with repeating syllables the last one can be replaced by り、ん or something else. E.g. ぺたぺた、ぺたり、ぺたん、ぺたんこ. So your result is close enough I’d say.
