  • Idk the front end is a sort of tough question it feels like because I think she would like to be able to say “hey Google open the blinds” but those are on timer automation and obfuscated by home assistant. I assume the integration fixes that problem, but eventually if like to set the Google displays to show home assistant dashboards when there is movement and expose those devices to Google? I’d like to keep things coherent and eventually move away from Google, but I’ll need to get to parity with HA first.

  • I mean that’s true except most kids (and probably their parents) also don’t know the “more optimal way” that suits the kid and will just opt to do less work. Most people are pretty bad at learning and retention as evidenced by, well, talking to people in public.

You could make the argument that that people got that away because teachers don’t get “optimal learning” either, which is a position I would support. However, I don’t think kids and parents choosing “always do less” is gonna fix it.

  • This is demonstrably true by experiment, but I think it has to have at least SOME value. Like you can give a drink or buy them a candy bar before you ask for something and they are more likely to donate more money to your cause. It’s called “influence debt” I believe and is discussed pretty palatably in “Influence” by Robert Cialdini. Unfortunately I couldn’t find my notes on it with a quick search.
