Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Having the first name of Al must be frustrating as it looks so much like AI.
3·3 days agoA lot of fonts have stylistic alternatives for this, like Inter’s “disambiguation” setting! Not to talk Atkinson Hyperlegible down, it’s a great font!
There is also Hyperlegible Sans, which is a sort of Inter/AH hybrid

15·6 days agoA lot of people just don’t get married, or do so very late. I bet the vast majority of those babies are born into healthy long-term relationships.

It is the characteristic of privilege and of every privileged position to kill the heart and mind of men. The privileged man, whether politically or economically, is a man depraved in mind and heart. That is a social law which admits no exception, and is as applicable to entire nations as to classes, corporations and individuals.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•ICE is 30 minutes late again. I'm really pissed about that.
3·9 days agoIndeed! For example, the Tōkaidō high speed line between Tokyo and Osaka runs almost 400 trains every day with an average delay of about 12 seconds 🤯
Bear in mind that this is just the high speed service (Shinkansen). There is also a parallel line for local trains.
Nice drawing! But what on earth is going on in that chess game? 😅

World News@lemmy.world•Japan moves for the first time to criminalize paying for sexEnglish
8·12 days agoHaha! Though they were probably more of a patriot than a drunk: Japan is the land of the rising sun, after all!
And by that I mean that the name of the country (in Japanese) literally means “origin of the sun”, and that the emperor is traditionally considered a direct descendant of the sun goddess.

Nah, you’re not dumb, you just didn’t know!
Here’s some history for you: When the Nobel Prize was created, Norway was in a union with Sweden. Seeing as Norway didn’t have any direct diplomatic relations, they were chosen to handle the diplomatically sensitive Peace Prize while the Swedes handled the rest.

16·26 days agoGreat writer! Not so great person. He’s very well known in Norway and considered seminal in Norwegian literature despite his less than fortunate political views.

These guys are all practically saints compared to the people on the actual “board of peace”!
