Dont some of these alternatives check all of those boxes? Eg Stoat and Matrix have persistent chat, file sharing, screensharing, and streaming dont they?

I don’t expect it from Sabrina Carpenter. I do expect it from a band that calls themselves punk. And this is exactly the time I expect it from them.

Unfortunately any unencrypted file sharing, or really any unencrypted internet usage at all, carries some risk of ISPs or governments snooping on what you are doing. BitTorrent is just particularly notable because of its history and that by the nature of the protocol, you are uploading (seeding) in addition to downloading.

A good VPN is a few bucks a month and provides a lot of other benefits. It’s worth considering.

I know, it’s picky lol. I’m still considering it as the replacement for my discord groups (also checking out Element/Matrix). The average users aren’t going to be up for swapping around a lot of platforms, so I am hoping to make one big push on the platform of choice. “Revolt” would have gotten less “wtf is that, how do you even spell it?” than “Stoat”
