They gotta wait till after the midterms. If they flip enough seats they might be able to impeach him. Right now there are too many Republicans that are loyal to him. Even with enough seats an actual conviction might be unlikely given that the current president was already impeachment twice the last time he was in office.

It is also possible that he’s immune to any type of conviction because of the Supreme Court decision a couple years ago shielding the president’s actions while in office.

Votes needed for Impeachment in the House: Simple Majority (51% of voting members)

Senate Trial votes needed for conviction: Two-Thirds Majority (~67% of voting members present)

The Senate Trail is conducted by the Chief Justice which is currently John Roberts ®. Conviction in this trail results in removal from office. If the president is not found guilty they are acquitted and can stay office.

Previous presidents stepped down before actually being convicted. That would most likely not be the cause here.

Most of the major elections occur in November. Many government workers have three weeks off of work for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. During that time the winning candidate and the incumbent coordinate transitioning into and out of office. This also gives the new administrative staff time to prepare and get up to speed.

Losing our privacy should mean any person seeking office has at least a ten year resume on the type of person they are and who is backing them. Especially now that there is a massive trove of data, once released, with tons of people who should never have power over anyone again.
