World News@lemmy.world•Boiling lobsters alive to be banned in UK animal cruelty crackdownEnglish
53·5 months agoexample, violence for entertainment. yes we’ve majorly turned against that which is good. child marriage, also good we got rid of that.
meat for food though, that is in our biology. our bodies need the nutrients that come from meat. we are biologically omnivores. yeah we can try to supplant that, but it’s through an artificial means.
I’m all for it, but i don’t think it’s going to be frowned upon in the future and i don’t think all humans can switch over to a plant based diet tomorrow. vegans are too much caught up in themselves to think of the practicality.
you’re right. screw Firefox. let’s all go to chrome. wait, no, edge, wait no, that one browser half the sites don’t work on.
didn’t read the article, but i know enough to not get my tech news from a pretentious p.o.s. like Jimmy Carr.

Devil’s advocate. We should only let a select few who we deem as intelligent to vote for us?
I work in IT. I think it’s popular because it’s “free”.
With that said, I put up a picture on the office wall of a Swiss army knife with features like syringe, fire extinguisher, axe, etc and have it labeled Microsoft Teams. Yes, it can do 100 different tasks, fucking poorly.
What can I do to expedite global warming? I want to do my part.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the weirdest/craziest thing you've seen while driving on the highway?
5·2 years agoDriving to Texas. Half way there, at night, not many cars on the road, I seen glow on the left side of the road. Slowly I notice it’s a fire. As I get closer I noticed it was a pickup truck fully engulfed.
I ended up just driving without stopping because: I had somewhere I needed to be and I was exhausted Anyone that was in that truck was already dead
This is a bit inaccurate. What about truck drivers? They are extra shitty then. But they wouldn’t be extra shitty if they didn’t deliver your Charmin to Costco for you to purchase.
Don’t blame the end-user, blame the system.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What're some of the dumbest things you've done to yourself in Linux?
5·2 years agoI accidentally wiped my backup. I’m redoing my storage setup and had the backup laying nearby.
I was stunned. I immediately gave up and went to bed.
I don’t see where it says he abused the bird before killing it.
So wouldn’t that mean actively going around telling newbies why church is bad? Which is what we don’t want religious folks doing?

921·2 years agoYes, you can have a gun, but holding it opening in front of an officer is asking for trouble.

THE POLICE PROBLEM@lemmy.world•California Cop Who Shot 18-Year-Old Had His Bodycam Off, But Surveillance Footage Captured Him Shooting Suspect in the Back as He FledEnglish
38·2 years agoIf the suspect raises the stakes to endangering life, half measures don’t cut it.
You have a gun out in front of an officer, I am not surprised when tensions rise and someone gets shot.

different goals and different way of tackling problems is maybe why people struggle with Linux? like someone only knowing Western languages taking up Chinese , where they approached the communication issue a bit differently. apple and Microsoft wanted a user friendly experience that everyone in the family can use a computer.
how Linux works is a good book if you want to learn more indepth. also something like Linux from scratch. not only will you learn a lot about Linux, but operating system design, networking, storage, etc. doing this will legit give you a better foundation than quite a few IT technicians.
