Fair enough. I think part of the design choices specifically included a lower profile to make the tank harder to hit, which goes to tank safety.

I hear you, but you posting that TSCMP is a propaganda outlet is as good a warning as any that it is, in fact, a propaganda outlet. I’d rather allow the source so it can be ridiculed than ban it and not knowing.
Didn’t Reddit in the Before Times have that feature, where specific sources would be marked as suspicious and a warning displayed to users? That was just as useful, but didn’t require your manual intervention.

I mean, the idea of a country with capital controls issuing the world reserve currency is pretty far out there. Imagine you have contracts with other countries denominated in yuan, and then you can’t get any because of political issues.
It might happen in the future, if China gets rid of capital controls, reforms its legal system, and enough time passes for trust to appear. So, maybe in 2050?

I hope that’s not the end of her ski career, she is an absolute legend!!

I raise you Madison Cawthorn and his cousin naked in bed! That seems to have killed his career - or was it the “allegation” there were cocaine-filled parties?

The world of music rights is bizarre, no matter under what circumstances. I think they jumped the shark when they decided to copyright-strike the video of the dancing baby because it was on the background of a rock tune.

Yes, the reason being that T models have an autoloading mechanism that needs direct access to the ammo. They don’t really care, since their soldiers seem to be cheap (to them) and the explosive failure requires a direct hit on the tank. Basically, Western tanks are designed with the safety of the crew in mind, Russian tanks with the safety of the tank in mind.

Everyone knows car accidents didn’t exist until bicycles were on the road! /S

I love Blorp and it’s my default interface/Piefed app on mobile. It looks very polished and thought out.
That said, I am not happy with typography that modifies contrast for emphasis. It works alright in dim conditions and / or dark mode, but in bright environments the low contrast portions of text become completely invisible, not just unreadable. That’s not Blorp in particular, it seems to be a design trend ATM.

Modern capitalism is anchored on the free and frictionless flow of capital - another one of those wonderful ideas stemming from the Reagan Revolution. As a result of it, capital doesn’t care about what happens to the market in a meaningful time frame, only what is happening today. If the economy collapses, that’s totally fine, as long as there is still something with an upward potential. And there is always something with an upward potential, even if it’s just investing in carrion feeders like pawn shops or subprime lending.
In fact, because it’s so much easier and faster to destroy than to build, modern capitalism probably prefers the former. You take something that works, load up on shorts, wreck it into the ground, profit. That is definitely the lesson I learned from the hostile takeover of RJR Nabisco in the 80s.
Like a great many features of modern capitalism (aka Late Stage Capitalism), this is a direct consequence of frictionless capital flows. This could be entirely avoided by restoring taxes on stock sales within a certain amount of time. You sell after five years, no taxes; before then, regular sales tax. That simple change stops the spiral of doom.

Reading the original Instagram post:
The riders says if he had been hit fully, not head-on, meaning he was only grazed (with the side view mirror and the side of the car). It’s much worse than the translation
The driver didn’t stop, despite having to have seen the rider (he hit him coming from behind)
The rider happenstanced into the car when coming back into town. It’s weird that the driver thought he could get away with it, considering the island is not enormous and they had lost the side view mirror in the impact
Police have been called and the driver identified. I hope Spain feels about hit-and-run drivers about the same as I do
In an alternate universe, we would now be reading the ChatGPT prompts that Epstein typed and would be absolutely horrified at the depravity unfolding. Imagine the guy without the restraint of having to talk to actual humans.

Isn’t that just a rebranded Conservapedia? 🧐
Wiki says
It was a financial success, grossing $24.9 million against a production budget of $3 million.
Confused look???
That’s not the drugs I was thinking of. More Ozempic than meth, more Lipitor than cocaine. :-)
Many Americans seem to think they should be taking some form of drug for every single ailment, malady, or discomfort they feel. And sometimes their lifestyle is only possible because of the drugs. So many foods, for instance, are almost meant to give you heartburn, you have a hard time living without heartburn pills or liquids.

Can you actually buy this or is it a Temu hallucination???

Very true. I was just making a dig at the freezing of the planning and construction of the high speed rail line there.
There are definitely cultural differences: a stronger emphasis on education, disdain for violence as a means of conflict resolution, social solidarity and an emphasis on togetherness.
Europe also doesn’t share uniquely American traits like cultural monoculture, a fondness of chemicals (whether drugs, additives, or coloring agents), the desire to ignore the natural environment (strawberries in January and 15 degrees inside in the summer), and a declarative loudness and brashness.
I wonder what happens if it turns out that, indeed, ICE falsified his signature on the forms he refused to sign. Wouldn’t that be exactly the kind of obstruction of government proceedings they accused anti-ICE protesters to do?
