  • I suspect that in the countryside it’s more common to ask guests to take their shoes off. Which makes sense, given additional mud people might bring in. It was a bit of a mixed bag where I grew up, but definitely very normal to ask guests to take their shoes off.

After moving to London there was no way I’d keep shoes on in the house, looking at how dirty streets and sidewalks can be. Context probably matters a lot alongside the cultural aspect.

  • It’s hard to explain just how well it works and how nice it is to have a nook or hallway be ceiling lit and daylight-bright during the day, then warm and cozy by lamplight in the evening.

Completely agree. I only run it in the living room as it’s north facing and can feel a bit dark.

Besides the light bulbs being coloured, are they a special kind? I tried to find high CRI lighting and ended up replacing the led strips in a cheap LED panel with Auxmer led strips.

Exactly. Bus drivers are better trained than regular drivers. In that respect I used to trust them more. But they are also people who might be into car culture. My partner had a London bus overtake her in an intersection and brake check her while she was cycling. Multiple times in a row. It was super dangerous. We complained to the bus company and they reported back that they put the driver on a mandatory training.

  • You’re confusing the complex dynamics of international relations of democratic EU member states and its 450 million citizens with the psychology of a single person.

The EU isn’t just an entity that can make decisions. European leaders change all the time. Many decisions at the EU level can be vetoed by a single member state. There are many people, even political parties who have wanted a European military for a long time. But… there are others who didn’t.

What you’re seeing is one person, presumably from Europe, who is angry with Americans. There are other Europeans who feel bad for Americans and yet others who don’t read any news at all.

  • It wasn’t even worth making fun over because it just confirmed they care more about saving donkeys than civilians or children.

    This is from the article:

“We have destroyed Gaza, but I don’t feel any guilt,” she said. “It’s the animals I care about, not those poor people [the Palestinians] for whom I can do nothing.”

There is lots of stuff to criticise about what they do. However… generally, I think the fact that an animal rescue keeps being focussed on animals makes sense. There are charities in Ukraine too that find cats and dogs that have lost their owners. There isn’t anything wrong with that.

I’m only commenting on this aspect. There is a lot of racism in the way this person/rescue appears to operate.
