  • People already put rent on their credit card to pay it off in chunks. This is just Klarna tapping in that market

People using CC to pay rent isn’t reassuring, it’s more alarming. Paying for housing on short-term, high-interest credit is financial insanity and implies profound dysfunction if not desperation.

I want to cook these motherfuckers as much as anyone. But if there is universal political motivation, then maybe the best use of it would be policies and international agreements to aggressively pursue sophisticated and connected abusers of children.

These files have exposed society wide failures of indifference, corruption, and tolerance for rank criminality. If after all that we’ve learned, kids aren’t made to be safer, then we’ve failed again.

  • What you’re being distracted from is the fact that rape and sexual assault, especially of children is normal and accepted in our society. You may be confused by all the hate and demonetization pedophiles get, but like all rape, the status of the perpetrator matters most.

Until 1971, married men were immune from charges of raping their wives. And several States protected them after that. For every 100 rapes reported to the police, only 18 charges will be filed 1. And of course their are incompetent pigs and timid prosecutors. But it’s also the public at large who won’t convict rapists. (because nobody believes women)

Epstein wasn’t hiding anything. And all those people around him knew what he was up to.

But forget about Epstein. What powerful men are snatching teenagers off the street today? Nobody cares.

The Epstein scandal is about embarrassing powerful men. Nobody gives a shit about raped little girls.

    1. Here is a reference to that figure, but for some reason, the referenced study isn’t on the DOJ’s website anymore.

Ronald Reagan had the best ‘in soviet Russia’ jokes.

Here is one paraphrased from memory:

A man in Moscow goes to the car dealership to buy a new car. After everything is arranged, the dealer tells comrade that his car will be delivered in 9 months. The man asks, in the morning, or the afternoon?

Why do you care comrade? It’s 9 months from now. Well, the man says, the plumber is coming in the morning.

  • Resource extraction has similar problems be it cobalt or oil. There is one big difference you can’t ignore. That is cobalt and other resource minerals are being made into durable goods that last for decades and then can be recycled. Oil is perpetual extraction forever because we simply burn and destroy it.

Right now, lead acid car batteries have a 90+% closed loop supply chain because 90+% of new batteries are made of old batteries. There is no reason why cobalt and lithium can’t achieve something similar. One of the reasons EV batteries have not created a recycling industry is because most of the batteries installed are still well within their service life.

Expanding hydrocarbon use expands hydrocarbon extraction. The extraction of minerals for batteries will go down the more popular they become.
