Because as far as I can tell, it’s a gimmicky dumpster fire, and I’m pretty sure everything is worse. And my battery life is awful. I looked into rolling the OS back, and apparently it’s not feasible. I may switch back to my iPhone 13 as my daily driver.

I like the new glass UI style, not the completely clear glass, but the glass effect on icons looks great.

I’m not sure if I just wasn’t aware it was available to me prior to IOS26, but the call screening feature is the biggest plus for me. The transcription is not great but at least I can get a sense of who’s the unknown number calling. I’m on a 12 Pro Max.

The other thing is the dark mode display is growing on me. It was disorienting at first but I kinda like it now. It also looks great in Carplay.

Menu items becoming larger feels like I’m in accessibility mode though, and I wish I could make it smaller like before.

Photos now has a setting so videos don’t automatically loop. That’s new, isn’t it?

I also appreciate the wider buttons in lots of places, like calendar events. The hit zone for the buttons used to be way too small.

I like the sentiment. I am encountering, especially on my 2023 iPad Pro, numerous instances where buttons don’t register on the first press.

This is something that has always helped me out: For future reference, if you’re not sure how an update will work for you (stability, etc.), you can:

    1. Backup your devices on the computer (via iTunes). I have photos, music, etc. on an EHD. I recently helped a friend rollback to iOS 18 – her exact saved state prior to iOS 26 – from her backup on iTunes. When she’s ready, she wants to do a fresh install instead of updating from the iOS’ current state.

    2. Fresh Install. After backing up necessary info (iCloud, etc.) and logging out of services, wipe your iOS device. When you get to your desired iOS state (iOS 16, 18, etc.), the first app you need to download is your password manager, followed by the rest. It’s quite easy after that.

    # 2 only sounds scary but it isn’t – I do it every several months. As long as you backup, you’re fine.

In case you’re wondering why I chose to run my apps from an EHD it’s because of my experience with updating OS and purchasing new Mac – the transition was smooth and effortless. I can open my music on my old 2021 MBP (first M1 chip) and on the iMac at work or any MacOS. I figured that if I could do it on windows there must be a way to make it work on a Mac.

iOS 26 may take some getting used to especially for some folks who only use one device and one OS. I’m still getting used to it, my work phone is on iOS 26 and my personal phone is still on iOS 18. My parents kept bugging me to update their phone and a few days later, they absolutely hate me for what I did to their phone, Lol.

Apple Music has translation for lyrics. I’m trying to learn Spanish, and I already enjoy a lot of Latin music so this has been amazing. Unironically the sole reason I upgraded.

The feature is a little buggy, but it’s so nice selecting a different microphone input that I’ve almost been annoyed it’s never been possible before :)

Sure. Car is the most important use case. Use a shortcut to connect to car Bluetooth.

For a decade, I would then talk up into the car microphone and shout voice commands at it. When music played over the car speakers, the microphone had a difficult time hearing voice commands.

Now, finally, in iOS 26, I made the iPhone microphone the default. Even with music playing over car speakers, the excellent phone microphone is often able to hear me without an issue.

And if I want to focus on an important phone call wearing AirPods, the other party can benefit from higher quality audio if I speak directly into the bottom of the phone, while I keep their responses to me private in my ears. (AirPods Pro 2 are superb for listening and disappointing for microphone quality.)
